Stephanie D'Augustine, MD - Serving Children with ADHD and Behavioral Concerns

Are you concerned that your child may have ADHD?

  • Are you getting complaints from his/her teacher?
  • Do you feel that he is not achieving to his full potential in school?
  • Does he have difficulty making or keeping friends?
  • Are you worried that your child's self esteem is suffering?

There are many reasons for children to have behavioral problems.  The first step is to decide whether their behavior is developmentally appropriate or not; then to decide how the behavior is impacting his or her life. If a behavior is adversely affecting a child's ability to learn, make friends, get along with the family, and enjoy childhood activities, it should be evaluated promptly.

Undiagnosed and untreated behavioral disorders can have effects on an individual that last a lifetime.  For example, people with untreated ADHD have been shown to have higher rates of subsance abuse, traffic violations, job loss and divorce than the general population.

Because behavioral problems are so complex, they require time and patience to evaluate fully.  Time is one thing that many professionals, particularly physicians, do not have in a busy clinic schedule.

Dr. D'Augustine has made it a priority to give the families the time that they need to have a comprehensive evaluation of their child's behavioral issues.  She strongly believes in a personal approach, taking each case individually.  She evaluates the child as a whole, and examines medical, psychological, family, educational, social, environmental and pharmacological contributors to behavioral problems.  Dr. D'Augustine cares for children from birth through age 14.
